Pat McEnroe resigns as Davis Cup captain (AP)

Patrick McEnroe is resigning as U.S. Davis Cup captain after 10 years. McEnroe said Monday he will leave after the Americans' playoff against Colombia this month. He says Davis Cup is a significant commitment and he'll now be able to focus more on his family and the USTA Player Development program.

Querrey trying to put 'US' back in Open (AP)

Venus Williams says 30 is the new 20. Sam Querrey likes to think 20 could be No. 1. Thirty-year-old Williams is talking about age, and No. 20 Querrey is talking about seeding, but both are talking about the same thing when it comes to the U.S. Open. Venus makes 10th US Open quarterfinal (AP)

When Israel's Shahar Peer was denied a visa to play in the United Arab Emirates last year, Venus Williams spoke out on her behalf -- because she felt it was the right thing to do under those circumstances. Top-seeded Rafael Nadal beat Gilles Simon of France 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the third round of the U.S. Open on Sunday. He will face fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the fourth round.

Stosur wins latest women's Open match (AP)

Australia's Sam Stosur won the latest-finishing women's match in U.S. Open history, erasing four match points and coming back to beat 2004 runner-up Elena Dementieva of Russia 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (2) in the fourth round. There were 15 service breaks in the 2-hour, 38-minute match that officially ended at 1:35 a.m.

Isner's 33 aces not enough in loss (AP)

John Isner's trip to the U.S. Open ended in the third round and included none of the drama or history he created at Wimbledon. The 18th-seeded American lost to No. 12 Mikhail Youzhny of Russia 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (5), 6-4 Sunday night, then said he didn't think he paid any price physically at Flushing Meadows for all the wear-and-tear his body took at the All England Club during the longest...
